They are informed by their visual art background, having studied Sculpture and Environmental Art at Glasgow School of Art (2012-2015). Their art school punk band Pennycress led them to DIY subcultures. They toured North America with Joanna Gruesome, screamed on Shetland with Damn Teeth and sang about roast dinners with Cat Apostrophe. On their 26th birthday, stonestreet performed with their close friend Joseph Morgan Schofield. This ritual with talc and ice transformed into a project about their queer siblinghood. They spent time on a residency at ]performances p a c e[ and performed at VFD, London and Sprungturm Festival, Darmstadt. As a collaborator and performer Stonestreet has worked with Joseph Morgan Schofield, Jazmine Krockback, Virginia Kennard, Eleanor Dalzell Jenyns,&nbsp; AgeofThe and Lori Lo Bianco. They have performed across the UK and internationally in Germany, Denmark and the United States. My work is an embodiment of radical softness. It is an attempt at finding new ways of being. The modes I inhabit allow for slippages into different paces; a slower, but playful meandering. Performances take place in ice time, but my mind is in tectonic time. Somewhere between the event and the exhibition: In a temporal grey zone. The work rejects the spectacular for the subtle. I describe my works as ritual actions, queer esoteric traditions that fold into my life and unfurl in my practice. I am interested in ideas of queer intimacy and siblinghood. Holding. Holding hands, holding space, holding up, holding to stop from falling. The work is quiet. In the slow progress there is an offering for you to be a witness, to join,&nbsp;to make connections, to be radically slow despite or because of the encroaching city time. In the month before my top surgery I performed this ritual with needles and moss to usher in healing and calm.&nbsp; Intimacy in the face of incomprehensible loss. The emotional starting point is the frustation of waiting. A staircase is shook until water pours down the side of a glass, no longer full to the brim. Spit replaces each drop. A spiral of seeds is blown out in every direction. A path is formed through the garden to gather the weeds.The German word for weed is unkraut, directly translated it means unherbal. If a herb is a plant with a use, then a weed is useless. Blooming nettles are presented and their poisonous spines are felt gently grazing across a cheek and a shoulder blade. Documented and offered as a witnessing of temporal images, actions, and gestures, this installation presents processes and dialogues between artists and sites where the visible process of erosion and extraction provides the opportunity to respond to the geological and anthropological histories uncovered by human and industrial scale touch. By taking a queer ecological approach F A U L T L I N E S unfolds the potential to explore how geological connections might offer reciprocal encounters and the ways in which we might learn from the unearthing of layers of compressed histories. Cine + PerfDawn. brings together artists whose practice uses performance, sculpture, photography and film to call to attention the connection between humans and the land. The exhibition programme seeks to activate and awaken ideas of simultaneously beginning and returning, to new-ancient knowledge, to ancestorial stories held in the body and the desire to belong as part of the land. SITE Salt + Earth Festival https://kanestonestreet.com/Holding-reppelling-reeling-and-rappelling Sat, 11 Mar 2023 17:50:41 +0000 Kane Stonestreet https://kanestonestreet.com/Holding-reppelling-reeling-and-rappelling Holding (repelling, reeling and rappelling)&nbsp; holding (rappelling) was a performance in actions at Convergence, a 3 day festival and wedding celebration. The festival was co-curated by Live Art Ireland and Bbeyond, hosted at Milford House in Tipperary, Ireland. stonestreet was met by the audience beneath the canopy of a tall tree on the grounds of the 16th century estate. There, they lay beneath a block of ice, formed on the end of a chain, which dripped down into their mouth. Other actions in the tryptic included stonestreet carrying a weight from the sash windows around a field that is in the process of being rewilded and stonestreet reaching and leaning out from a tree they are connected to by a bungee cord.
